Family law mediation is an informal and voluntary process through which parties can meet with an impartial, trained third person to work together in order to resolve some or all of their pre or post dissolution of marriage issues. A good family law mediator can help you decide custody and parenting time that is in the best interests of your child(ren), help you resolve financial issues, calculate child support, and divide your property. Mediation can take place with or without attorneys being present, although an attorney will be needed to draft an enforceable agreement and proper court order once you have come to an agreement. Whether you participate in mediation with or without an attorney, a mediated settlement will save you time, money and emotional turmoil and, most importantly, will give you control over your children and property, rather than a judge who does not know you. People who mediate their issues and come to an agreement are generally more satisfied with the outcome and better able to cooperatively co-parent and get on with their life without further drama or regret.
